Chennai : A couple and their three children who flew in from the US Saturday morning were quarantined after their five-year-old daughter showed symptoms of swine flu, officials said.
Their blood samples have been sent to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) to test for influenza A (H1N1). The report would be available after two days.
The family was first taken to the Communicable Diseases Hospital in Chennai where tests for swine flu were done on them.
“A five-year-old girl showed symptoms of the influenza,” said V.K. Subbaraj, state health secretary.
The family was advised to remain in the hospital, but they refused. They are quarantined in a leading city hospital.
So far, 10 people have been tested for swine flu in Tamil Nadu, of which two cases from Coimbatore were positive. They were discharged after treatment, Subbaraj said.
