Indian experts welcome Ahmadinejad’s victory

New Delhi : Indian foreign policy experts welcomed the massive victory of Mahamoud Ahamadinejad in Iran’s 10th presidential elections last Friday.

In an exclusive interview to IRNA here on Monday, Dr. V. P. Vaidik, Chairman of Council for Indian Foreign Policy, said: “Ahmadinejad’s victory in the elections is a cause of satisfaction for all of us in India. This victory would strengthen Ahmadinejad’s hand in dealing with the West particularly the US.”

“With a little change, Ahmadinejad’s policy would continue. Given the President Barak Obamba’s willingness to engage Iran, the way now is paved for the start of the direct negotiations between Washington and Tehran.” He added.

On the possible impact of Ahmadinejad’s victory in the elections on the ties between Iran and India, Dr. Vaidik, a former editor of the India’s premier news agency Press trust of India (PTI) said: “the result of the Iranian presidentional elections is similar to that of the recently held Indian Parliamentary electrons where both the nations have voted for stability and continuation of the ruling governments. The outcome of the Iranian elections has paved the way for further improvement of the ties between New Delhi and Tehran and to materialize the same, the Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh should visit Iran in the coming future.”

“No doubt there had been some misunderstandings between Iran and Indian but I hope that these would be cleared in near future.” Dr. Vaidik said adding that the Iranians’ choice in this election is very much right and correct.

On Iran’s role in the South-East Asia, The foreign policy expert said the he has visualized a region from Myanmar to Iran and from Tibet to Maldives as Aryana and Amadinejad has to play a leading role in materializing the same.

Dr. M. S. Sansanwal of the Delhi University said that Ahmadinejad’s victory in the election shows that the Iranians support both his domestic and foreign policies.

Predicting the start of the talks between Iran and the US in coming future, the professor of the Indian foreign policy at Delhi University said: “given the recent willingness of President Obama to improve the US ties with the Islamic World, the start of the direct negotiations between Tehran and Washington is inevitable and the recent victory of Ahamadinejad has strengthen his position in the talks.”
