DU starts counselling sessions for PG courses

New Delhi : Worried about how to get admission for post graduation in Delhi University’s south campus? Fear not, as a two-day counselling session which began Tuesday will provide answers to the questions that may be bothering you.

The south campus offers a total of 21 post graduation courses, including master’s degrees, M. Phils and PhDs.

“Those who are seeking admission in PG courses are entering a premiere university of the country with a very difficult syllabus. The counselling sessions will help students understand the subject better and will also give them guidance regarding the admissions procedure” said Dinesh C. Varshney, deputy dean of students’ welfare for the south campus of Delhi University.

The two-day long, ‘Interactive Open House Session on Post Graduation Courses’ began Tuesday and will go on till Wednesday. The counselling session included an introduction of various courses in the varsity, an information based multi-media presentation followed by a chance for students to ask questions.

“We always give preference to Delhi University students who have done graduation in the same course in which they want to pursue post graduation. Such students are eligible for direct admission” Varshney told IANS.

The admission, however, is only for subjects like Hindi, political science, history, Sanskrit and electronics.

But those who want to pursue a different subject would need to give an entrance examination and would get admission according to how they perform, he said.

Vikas Mishra, one of the six counsellors, said most students feel harassed and worried about what to do after graduation.

“This is the best way to get to know things. At the moment, most of the students mainly want to inquire about the admissions procedure and the dates for the entrance exams” he said.

For Astha Gupta, an English graduate from Patna, who came to attend the session, the counselling session was of immense help.

“Being an out-station student, I was not aware of the different courses in the university, but the counselling session helped. Plus the counsellors are very polite and helpful” Gupta told IANS.
