Lucknow : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday held a meeting to review its poor Lok Sabha poll performance in Uttar Pradesh but top leaders like party president Rajnath Singh, Murli Manohar Joshi, Maneka Gandhi, her son Varun were conspicuous by their absence.
Nearly 50 party members attended the meeting chaired by state BJP president Ramapati Ram Tripathi and senior leader Kalraj Mishra.
Asked about the absence of the party’s senior leaders and winning candidates during the meeting, Tripathi said: “The leaders who have won the elections are busy in Delhi as they are formulating strategy to strengthen the party’s base in UP (Uttar Pradesh).”
Mishra said, “We assessed the party’s performance on seat-wise basis. Now, we will prepare a report in this regard that would be submitted to the party high command.”
Of the total 80 Lok Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh, the BJP won a mere 10 in the 2009 elections.
