CPI-M activists obstruct central ministers on way to areas near Lalgarh

Midnapore (West Bengal) : Two central ministers of state were Sunday obstructed allegedly by Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) activists at Salboni in West Midnapore district when they were going to troubled areas with relief for people who have fled homes after the security operation began at Lalgarh.

Minister of State for Rural Development Sisir Adhikari and Minister of State for Shipping Mukul Roy, both from the Trinamool Congress, had driven to Salboni on way to Pirakata and Goaltore following instructions of party chief, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Roy said Trinamool had set up relief camps at Pirakata and Goaltore where more than 2,000 party supporters had been sheltered.

“We were near our office at Salboni when the CPI-M supporters carrying bamboo poles and red party flags fell trees at three spots to block our way. We were stranded for over two hours,” Roy said.

“Even the district administration did not want us to go. Later, we sent the relief materials in mini trucks and came back to Midnapore,” he said.

Banerjee alleged in Kolkata that the CPI-M men had obstructed the two ministers to murder them.

Adhikari said around 20,000 villagers from areas in Lalgarh were fleeing their homes due to the atrocities committed by security forces.
