Hyderabad: Muslim students of Andhra Pradesh are continuing to register impressive performance in different competitive examinations in the state. Latest to join the list of the impressive forward march of Muslims is Sameena Firdous of Hyderabad who has secured the first rank at the state level in Ed-Cet, the common entrance test for admission in B.Ed.
She secured the top rank in Biological science stream. Daughter of Mohammed Abdul Sattar in Sayeedabad area of old city, Firdous secured 120 marks. Sudhakar of Visakhapatanam secured the second rank.
The other Muslim student in the top ten rankers is Mohammed Gore Pasha from Tandur n Ranga Reddy district who secured 103 marks in Physical science.
“After completing my junior college I did my graduation through distance education. I was also working as a teacher after passing Intermediate”, said Sameena Firdous who said she would give credit for her success to her family which always encouraged her to continue her studies.
“I used to study for three hours ever day and I am thankful to Allah for this success”, said Sameena who had not taken any coaching for Ed-Cet, unlike the majority of the student.
Daughter of a labourer
Another inspiring story of success through hard work has come from Patancheru in outskirts of Hyderabad where the daughter of a labourer Prabhkar secured second rank in Mathematics subject. The interesting thing about this family is that while both the parents are not educated, their all three children have turned out to be brilliant in academics. The eldest son is working in Indian Air Force and second son is in second year of MBBS (medicine course). Now Haritha, who has completed M.Sc from Osmania University and teaches in an engineering college as secured distinction in Ed.Cet. “From the beginning I have been interested in education and teaching”, said the girl who secured the success through sheer hard work. Like Sameena she also did not attend any coaching classes.
Like the EMCET and I-Cet, Muslim students have performed very well in Ed-Cet in five different subjects of biological science, Social Studies, English, Mathematics and Physical science.
In all 8089 Muslim boys and girls have cleared the entrance test, largest number 4552 in social studies and lowest 159 in English and 349 in physical sciences. 1915 students passed in biological sciences and 1114 in maths.
In all 126598 students appeared in Ed-Cet this year and 125760 students cleared it. Thus 99.66 students were successful. But not all of them will be able to get the admission as the state has 650 B.Ed colleges with about 65000 seats.
Minister for education Manikya Vara Prasad said that the counseling for admission will be completed by August 10. The minister said the demand for the B.Ed seats in the state had gone up in view of the large scale recruitment of teachers by the government.
Others who secured top ranks in other subjects include Ms. Utpala Williams in Maths, M Suresh in social studies, Daniel Raju in English and Bharat Kumar in Physical sciences.
It may be recalled here that 30000 Muslim boys and girls have cleared Eamcet or Common Entrance Test for admission in medical and engineering colleges and 15000 Muslim students have passed the I-Cet for admission in to MBA and MCA courses.
