Delhi power demand exceeds 4330 MW, breaks all previous records

New Delhi : The capital city’s power demand reached yet another high Tuesday as it crossed the 4,330 MW mark.

“Power demand is breaking all the records. The demand of 4,337 MW is the highest ever in the national capital,” a Delhi Transco Ltd official told IANS.

Delhi’s peak power demand had touched a new high Monday at 4,261 MW. Prior to Monday, the highest demand was recorded Saturday at 4,218 MW.

The official said the high humidity levels could be the reason behind the increased demand even though the temperatures had come down. The humidity level recorded Tuesday was 87 percent.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Monday appealed to residents to adopt power conservation measures such as closing shops by 8 p.m and using air coolers instead of air conditioners.

On Sunday, Dikshit had given a stern warning to power distribution companies to improve the power situation in four days’ time.
