Islamabad : Pakistan Monday denied an Indian newspaper report claiming its military intelligence was linked to the bloody mutiny in Dhaka by the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) troopers last week.
On Sunday, the Times of India citing unnamed sources, said arrested mutineers had “thrown up the name” of senior Bangladeshi businessman and politician, Salauddin Qadeer Chowdhury – who is close to Pakistan’s “military intelligence complex” and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
The newspaper also reported that the mutineers had received around $140,000 to finance their revolt.
Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Abdul Basit reacted sharply to the report, saying the report was “obviously baseless and mala fide”.
Islamabad “firmly believes in the principles of non-intervention and non- interference”, Basit said in a statement, adding that the two countries “enjoy close, friendly and cooperative ties”.
