Bogota : A police helicopter crashed in South Colombia killing all four people on board, Spanish news agency EFE reported Wednesday.
The helicopter has been missing since early Tuesday and was by search and rescue teams in southern Colombian province of Putumayo, authorities said.
Officials with the anti-drug directorate of the police said that the wreckage of the Huey II was found 10 km from the town of Villa Garzon.
The directorate said that the cause of the accident were not known, adding that authorities are looking into the possibility that some kind of mechanical fault brought the aircraft down.
The chopper was returning from transporting workers with the government programme to manually eradicate illegal coca crops in the region.
The crew communicated for the last time with air traffic controllers at 1.25 a.m. Tuesday, according to official sources cited in the press.
