Tehran, Baku sign several agreements

Tehran : Iran and Azerbaijan on Tuesday inked seven documents on bilateral cooperation in various areas.

The documents were signed after official negotiations held between President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Azeri counterpart Ilham Aliyev.

President Aliyev, heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Tehran this morning and was accorded official welcome by President Ahmadinejad.

Aliyev is here to attend the 10th Summit Meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization and hand over the ECO presidency to the Iranian president on Wednesday, March 11.

Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are the 10 ECO member states.

The agreements inked by the two sides were on data gathering, bilateral cooperation in various fields including comprehensive economic cooperation, cultural heritage, postal cooperation, avoiding double taxation and bilateral cooperation between the two countries’ national libraries.

After the signing ceremony, the Azeri president proceeded to the Mausoleum of the Founder of the Islamic Republic to pay tribute to the late Imam Khomeini.

He is then to meet the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, this afternoon.
