Political parties rope in postman to reach voters

Ranchi : Political parties have found a new way to campaign this general elections. They are turning to the traditional postman for delivering pamphlets and other campaign materials to the voters in rural areas.

“We have been approached by some political parties and probable candidates to deliver their materials to voters through our Direct Post services,” an official in Ranchi postal department told IANS.

Jharkhand Postal Department Director Anil Kumar said: “Our Direct Post services could be availed by anyone in the state. The only condition is that the interested person or institutes avail of our services by paying the charges.”

The Direct Post service is already being used by educational institutions and multi-national companies to popularise their products.

Also, the postal department now plans to introduce a new service – Information of Delivery (IOD). This service will confirm to the sender that their messages have reached their target audience.

“IOD services could be availed of by paying extra money. The political parties are excited by this move of the postal department,” Kumar said.

Former spokesperson of Jharkhand Congress Alok Dubey said: “This is a good move as our messages will get conveyed to people living in rural areas.”
