Lucknow : A school teacher in Uttar Pradesh was arrested Friday for allegedly cutting the hair of 11 boys perforce and beating them up, police said.

Suresh Kumar Rai of Primary School Sarya in Ballia, about 300 km from here, was arrested Friday from his residence after a complaint was registered by one of the students at the Narhi police station Thursday.

“Rai cut the hair of 11 boys and beat them for breaking a switchboard in the school March 18. A student’s hand was also fractured in the incident,” police inspector Nirmal Shukla told IANS on phone.

A case under the law that deals with atrocities against people from a Scheduled Caste (SC) or a Scheduled Tribe has also been registered against Rai as three SC students were involved in the incident.

“Besides the primary school teacher, the principal of the school has also been charged with beating students and cutting their hair,” Additional Superintendent of Police Mahatma Prasad told IANS on phone.

Police are yet to arrest the principal who is absconding.

The 11 students are of classes 5 to 8. While students studying in class 5 are enrolled with the Primary School Sarya, the others study at the Junior High School Ujiar. Both schools operate from the same premises.
