Top LeT guerrilla among two militants killed in Kashmir

Srinagar : Two guerrillas, including a top militant of the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), have been killed in two separate gunbattles in Jammu and Kashmir, the army said Thursday.

A defence spokesperson said security personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the police’s special operations group surrounded a forested place in Dooraswani area of Lolab, 110 km from here, in north Kashmir late Wednesday.

“While the security forces were searching the forest, militants hiding there opened fire at the troops, resulting in a gunfight at the end of which one militant was killed,” Lt. Col. J.S. Brar told IANS here this morning.

He said: “The militant has been identified as Abdullah Uni of Pakistan and was a district commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).” Arms and ammunition have also been recovered from there.

Another guerrilla was killed by police and army in a forest area in north Kashmir’s Bandipore district Wednesday evening.
