Gujarat government had it coming: Kapil Sibal

By IANS,

New Delhi : The crimes in Gujarat will slowly unravel, Congress leader Kapil Sibal said Friday as news came in of the Gujarat High Court refusing anticipatory bail to state minister Maya Kodnani for her alleged involvement in the 2002 sectarian violance.

“It was coming,” Sibal told a television channel here. “Slowly, slowly, the crimes in Gujarat will unravel.”

The Bharatiya Janata Party, he said, would suffer as long as it “continues to promote its poster boy Modi”.

“And this will actually hit them in the times to come,” Sibal, who is also a minister in the union cabinet, added.

The Gujarat High Court Friday rejected the anticipatory bail application of Kodnani, who is accused of leading mobs in the Naroda Patiya and Naroda Gaam localities in 2002 in which 106 people were killed during the Gujarat riots.

The burning of a train in Godhra town on Feb 27, 2002, led to widespread rioting in the state that killed 1,180 people, mostly Muslims.
