10-year-old boy killed in Kashmir explosion

By IANS,

Srinagar : A 10-year-old boy was killed and his two sisters wounded when a bomb, probably left behind by militants, exploded accidentally in a meadow in north Kashmir Saturday, police said.

The three siblings had gone to the meadow to sweep and ready a mud hutment so that their family could move up to the pasture for the summer months, a practice prevalent among the pastoralists in the hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

The incident occurred in Trikanjan forest area of Uri in Baramulla district, 110 km from here.

“As the children were cleaning the mud hutment, some explosive device probably left behind by the militants exploded killing the 10-year boy on the spot and injuring two of his sisters,” a police officer told IANS.

The injured girls have been taken to hospital, where doctors described the condition of one as critical.
