New Delhi: Opposing any external interference in Nepal affairs, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) politburo member Sitaram Yechury Tuesday said crisis in that country was “not unnatural” as such ‘hiccups’ occur in a “nascent democracy”.
Nepal has a “nascent democracy in which many hiccups can develop, which is not unnatural”, Yechury said in a statement.
He said, “The CPI-M wants any solution to the present crisis in Nepal to be within a democratic framework.”
“There should not be any interference from outside. The resolution of the crisis should be done by the people of Nepal only.”
CPI-M leaders, particularly Yechury, are known to be sharing warm relations with Maoist leaders Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and Baburam Bhattarai.
“The election of the present government in Nepal was to form a constituent assembly. It should have been on the basis of a national consensus from the very beginning, with the participation of all political parties,” Yechury said.
He advocated consultation and dialogue between Nepal political parties to resolve problems.
“The main objective of the government is to draft a constitution. All the political parties in Nepal should try to resolve the problems through consultation and dialogue,” the CPI-M leader said.
The crisis in Nepal erupted after Maoist Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda Monday announced his resignation to protest President Ram Baran Yadav’s decision to reinstate the army chief sacked by him.
