One more ancient mosque under cloud, Narbada Project halted

By RINA,

New Delhi: Waqf Tribunal Court has stopped all construction work concerning Narbada Project in Bhopal and advised all concerned departments and parties to the case to resolve the issue considering its sensitivity and genuineness. Narbada Project is intended to supply water to the city but a two hundred years old mosque falls in its way.

After PWD issued notice to demolish shops constructed around the mosque, the issue was brought to the notice of Wakf Board. PWD claims these are illegal constructions. But a closer study found local Patwari at fault as he did not show the 200 hundred years old mosque in the map. Further inquiry by the Waqf Board revealed that the government has earlier acquired a piece of land admeasuring 1500 square feet for expanding the road.

Dispensing with Wakf Board application, Wakf Tribunal Court today advised all three main parties, PWD, Public Health Engineering department and Wakf Board, to sort out the issue with mutual consent. Earlier, a meeting was held in this connection in which Patwari was also called but SDM as collector’s representative left the meeting and did not turn back. Since the issue is very sensitive, it looks as if storm is gathering in Bhopal.
