Chandigarh : A businessman was shot dead here by motorcycle-borne assailants, who also took away from him a bag carrying cash, police and the victim’s family said Wednesday.
The businessman, Amarjit Singh, 50, was shot outside his house Tuesday night when he was parking his car after returning from his cloth and jewellery showroom in the Sector 34.
“Two youths wearing black helmets came on a motorcycle and attacked Amarjit outside his house in Sector 35. They also smashed the window panes of the car and fired three shots at him,” Anokh Singh, investigating officer of the case, told IANS.
The victim received bullets in an arm and the abdomen. Amarjit’s wife and son, who were in the house, took him to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, Anokh Singh said.
A relative of the deceased told IANS that the attackers also took away a bag, containing cash and showroom keys, from the car before fleeing.
Amarjit would normally be accompanied by his private guard and his driver. But they had gone on leave Tuesday.
The police officer suspected an organised gang was behind the murder as “similar incidents have also happened in the neighbouring towns in the past few weeks”.
