Congress confident of sweeping Delhi, BJP admits close fight

By IANS,

New Delhi: The Congress will sweep the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, state party chief J.P. Agarwal said Thursday at the end of voting in the seven constituencies in the Indian capital.

“We will sweep (the polls) in Delhi and people have voted for the Congress for the development work carried out by the Congress government at centre and Delhi,” a confident Delhi Congress chief Agarwal told IANS. The Congress leads the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the centre.

Even BJP leaders concede that the going will be tough for the party in the national capital.

“The fight is very close in these elections and it is very difficult for me to turn it into figures right now. We will have a meeting Friday evening when we will assess the situation,” Delhi BJP chief O.P. Kohli told IANS when asked about how many seats the party expected to win here.

Results will be declared May 16.
