Ghaziabad constituency witnesses 46.4 percent turnout

By IANS,

Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad Lok Sabha constituency, from where Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh is contesting, witnessed a voter turnout of 46.4 percent, officials said Thursday.

The Ghaziabad area saw the lowest polling at 43 percent, while Murad Nagar had the highest of 50 percent. The Loni area registered 46 percent, Sahibabad 46 and Dhaulana assembly segment 47 percent voting.

The urban areas significantly recorded a high voter turnout. People moved out of their homes to cast their vote braving the heat. Several booths in Kavi Nagar, Raj Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Govindpuram and Pilakhuwa saw people waiting for their turn to vote in long queues.

At many places in Pilakhuwa and other semi-urban areas, supporters of different parties were seen fetching their prospective voters from their houses and ferrying them in autos, rickshaws and scooters to the polling booths.

Several pockets in Murad Nagar, which were expected to register substantial polling, saw low voter turnout. Booths were seen empty for long hours at several places.

Polling was largely peaceful with no incident reported from anywhere.
