Karat votes ‘according to party decision’

By IANS,

New Delhi : Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Prakash Karat Thursday said he had voted according to his “party’s decision” as there was no Left candidate in the New Delhi constituency where he cast his vote.

“I have voted according to my party’s decision,” Karat told journalists after voting at the Sanchar Bhawan in New Delhi.

The Left parties have not fielded a candidate in the New Delhi constituency and Karat is working hard to form a non-Congress, non-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.

Congress leader and central minister Ajay Maken and Vijay Goel of the BHaratiya Janata party (BJP) are the main contestants in the constituency.

Karat said his party has “very clearly” said it was “working for a non-Congress secular government at the centre”.

Earlier, CPI-M Delhi state committee secretary Pushpinder Grewal said his party had directed the cadre to vote for the candidates who could defeat both the Congress and the BJP candidates.

Apart from a Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate in the South Delhi constituency, the Left parties have not fielded any candidates in the seven constituencies of the capital.
