Maoists kill liquor seller in Orissa

Bhubaneswar : Maoists killed a liquor seller in Orissa’s Kandhamal district late Wednesday night, police said Thursday.

Nearly a dozen armed rebels dragged K.B. Patra out of his home at Kaspanga village under Brahmanigaon police station area and killed him with sharp-edged weapons, police said.

Patra was believed to be a seller of country-made liquor, district superintendent of police S. Praveen Kumar told IANS, adding investigations are on.

In a separate incident, a group of Maoists attacked security personnel in the state’s Malkangiri district in the early hours Thursday. After a gun battle between the two sides, lasting few minutes, the ultras fled into the forest, police said.

The central reserve police force (CRPF) personnel were returning to the police station through a forested and hilly area after poll duty when they are attacked by the rebels, who had blocked the road by felling trees.

Kandhamal and Malkangiri districts are respectively about 200 and 620 km from the state capital.
