Tehran : A senior parliamentarian said on Sunday that massive turnout in the upcoming presidential election will have positive impact on democracy flourishing in Islamic Iran with people to determine their own fate.
Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Chairman of Majlis Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy, made the remarks while addressing the formal session of the Parliament this morning.
On Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, he said the US and the EU member states should know that the period of talking about suspension of enrichment has been over.
He added that the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis), in line with the Iranian national interest, has seriously demanded the government build power plants to generate 20,000 mgw electricity from nuclear energy.
“Such realities have paved the way for a mutual understanding between Iran and the Group 5+1. I hope they do not miss such a historical opportunity,” the MP reiterated.
He also advised President Barack Obama to abandon the carrot and stick policy of former president George W Bush and talk about the existing realities.
Boroujerdi regretted that the British government is still playing a hostile and destructive role, urging the Iranian government to interact with Britain in line with its hostile attitude.
Regretting a shift in the views of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon regarding the Israeli war crimes in Gaza December 2008-January 2009, the MP said such a shift is the result of pressures exerted by the Tel Aviv regime and is “unacceptable and failed”.
Despite a report released by a UN panel which acknowledged Israeli leaders have perpetrated crimes against humanity and war crimes in Gaza by heavy air raids on civilian targets and killing civilian men, women and children by artillery shells, Mr. Ban said that he will keep the report on hold and will not prosecute the Israeli leaders for violating war laws and the Geneva Conventions.
