No swine flu in India, four under scanner

New Delhi : No case of influenza A (H1N1), commonly known as swine flu, has been reported in India till Wednesday, but four people have been quarantined for suspected symptoms, health ministry officials said.

Four passengers – three in Delhi and one in Hyderabad – who came from countries affected with swine flu have been kept under observation in government health facilities.

“So far samples of 46 persons have been tested and found negative for influenza A (H1N1). Samples of three persons are under testing while one will be received soon. As of now, no case has been reported in India and the situation is being monitored,” a health ministry official said.

Screening of passengers coming from affected countries is continuing in 21 international airports.

“Till date, about 450,000 passengers have been screened. 185 doctors and 102 paramedics have been deployed to man 73 counters at the above airports,” the official said.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), there are 5,728 laboratory confirmed cases of influenza A (H1N1) infection from 33 countries and 61 people have so far died of the disease across the world.
