20,000 poll officials for vote count in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow : A total of 20,000 poll officials will be engaged Saturday in counting of the votes cast for the general election in Uttar Pradesh.

“As many as 20,000 personnel would be deployed at 72 counting centres in district headquarters across the state,” chief electoral officer Anuj Kumar Bishnoi told reporters here Friday.

The counting process will begin at 8 a.m. amid tight security.

“Nearly 150 companies of the PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) as well as policemen have been deployed across the state,” said Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Brij Lal.

Though the initial result is expected to be declared after three hours of the start of the counting process, the final result will be made available by 5 p.m.

Some of the prominent politicians whose fate will be decided tomorrow are Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, actress-turned politician Jaya Prada, former union minister Murli Manohar Joshi, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Varun Gandhi and his mother Maneka Gandhi.

The state has 80 Lok Sabha constituencies.
