First session of Sikkim assembly begins Friday

Gangtok : The first session of the newly elected 32-member Sikkim assembly, which has no opposition member after the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) swept the polls, begins Friday.

Governor B.P. Singh swore in protem speaker Menlom Lepcha Thursday.

The house is expected to elect former minister K.T. Gyaltsen as the speaker and M.B. Dahal as his deputy.

With Chief Minister Pawan Chamling’s Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) sweeping the elections, wresting all 32 assembly constituencies and the only Lok Sabha seat, the ruling party faces no opposition in the house.
