New Delhi: In the third such incident in a week, two motorbike-borne robbers Monday snatched a bag containing Rs.500,000 from the manager of a manufacturing firm while he was waiting outside a bank in west Delhi.
The robbers snatched the money from Rajmal Shah, 57, a manager with DR Plastics, from outside the HDFC bank’s Rajouri Garden branch at around 11.45 a.m.
Police said Shah, whose company was based in Kirti Nagar, had come to collect the money from an associate Vijay Singh Tanwar, 55. Tanwar was accompanied by his son, Sunil.
“Tanwar and Sunil went inside the bank alongwith Shah. Tanwar encashed a few cheques and put Rs.500,000 inside a bag. Tanwar handed over the bag to Shah and the three left the bank together,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (west Delhi) Sharad Agarwal.
“While they were waiting for their car outside the bank, two motorbike-borne men drove up and snatched the bag from Shah and sped away,” he said, adding that the robbers drove towards Mayapuri.
Tnawar said: “It happened all of a sudden. Before we could realize, they had sped away. My driver tried to give them chase, but they managed to flee. There was no guard outside the bank at that time and since the robbers were wearing helmets we could not see their faces.”
This is the third such incident involving the same modus operandi in the past one week. On May 18, two bike-borne men gunned down a security guard while snatching a bag containing Rs.1.8 million from a businessman outside the Bank of India branch in Patparganj area.
Three days later, two motorbike borne men snatched a bag containing Rs.700,000 from a businessman and his employee outside the ICICI bank in east Delhi
The police have not made any breakthrough in any of the cases.
