Pak-Iran relations not confined to outcome of elections: Journalists

Islamabad : Pakistani senior Journalists on Friday said that relations between Iran and Pakistan have traditionally been close and not confined to the outcome of the elections.

Talking to IRNA, they congratulated Iranian nation on having Presidential elections in the country.

Journalist Mazhar Abbas, said that the forthcoming election in Iran is very significant as performance of President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad will be tested through voting.

He added that it is encouraging that there will be an election in Iran despite the Western criticism. “The electoral process in Iran has never been disrupted since the revolution which is a positive sign”, said Mazhar Abbas.

Mazhar said that there should be more freedom of expression in Iran to point out the weaknesses of the bureaucracy.

He said that the relations of Pakistan and Iran are not confined to the outcome of the elections.

Mazhar Abbas was of the view that who so ever wins the election, Iranian policy of having strong relations with Pakistan will continue, though, Iran has some concerns about the rising militancy in Pakistan.

“In my opinion the relations of both the countries will continue to strengthen”, he viewed.

Muzzafar Naqvi a senior journalist when contacted said that the Iranian system of governance is very inspiring for Pakistan.

He said that in Pakistan there is a dire need of a revolution and daring leadership.

Muzzafar Naqvi said that the elections in Iran have been regularly taking place. “The democracy is very stable in Iran”, he said.

He was of the view that the importance of cordial and friendly relations between Iran and Pakistan can hardly be overemphasized.

Muzzafar Naqvi added that the bilateral relations have been remained strong irrespective of change of governments.

“Who will win the election the relations between Pakistan and Iran will remain strong”, he opined.

He held that both the countries are very close mentally and they share same sentiments for each other. Muzzafar Naqvi prayed for the prosperity of Iranian nation.
