Moscow : The U.S. House of Representatives has adopted a non-binding resolution condemning a controversial report on Israeli and Palestinian war crimes in Gaza, the Jerusalem Post said on Wednesday.
The resolution, which describes the findings of a UN mission as “irredeemably biased and unworthy of further consideration or legitimacy,” was adopted by 334 “yes” votes against 36 “no” votes.
A UN mission set up to investigate the December 2008-January 2009 Gaza conflict released the report in September saying that both Israeli and Palestinian forces had committed “war crimes.” Most of the war crimes detailed in the report were on the Israeli side, and the Israeli government has rejected the findings.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said the report “epitomizes the practice of singling Israel out from all other nations for condemnation,” Reuters said.
The author of the report, former South African judge Richard Goldstone, has send a written protest to the Congress, saying that his report was misinterpreted.
Opponents of the resolution say it might do harm to the U.S. role of a mediator in the Middle East peace process.
