New Delhi : Prime Minister of Sweden Fredrik Reinfeldt arrives in India on Thursday for bilateral talks with his Indian counterpart Dr. Manmohan Singh and to head the EU delegation at the India-EU Summit.
Sweden holds the current EU Presidency.
He is accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt, Trade Minister Dr Ewa Björling and a 36-member high level delegation from the Swedish government and business community.
During his two-day stay in the country, Reinfeldt will participate in bilateral talks with Dr Singh, head the delegation at the EU-India Summit and meet Indian leaders including President of the Indian National Congress Party Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition L.K. Advani, Minister for External Affairs S.M. Krishna. He will also call on President Pratibha Patil and Vice President Ansari.
India and Sweden are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding(MoU) on environment. The MoU will cover climate change, clean technology, clean development mechanisms, environmental governance and air water quality.
The MoU will lead to the setting up of a joint working group which will oversee implementation.
According to a Swedish Embassy communiqué, Reinfeldt will interact with climate experts at TERI, visit Stockholm Water Prize winner Dr Bindeshwar Pathak’s Sulabh Gram and grace the Sweden-India Nobel Memorial Dinner held by the Ambassador Mr Lars-Olof Lindgren. Before leaving the country, the Swedish Prime Minister will visit the Taj Mahal in Agra.
