Court asks government to start helpline against child labour

By IANS,

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court Wednesday mooted the idea of starting a telephone helpline for reporting instances of child labour in the capital.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar asked the government to consider starting a phone helpline for reporting instances of child labour in the capital.

“You (government) should think of starting a helpline number as well as a website for handling child labour cases more vigilantly,” said the bench while asking the government to file their response by Nov 25, the next date of hearing.

The court also asked the government to file a status report as to how many children have been rescued and what is the government doing for their rehabilitation.

The court was hearing the plea of the Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), an NGO, seeking elimination of child labour from the capital.
