New Delhi: Two more bridges are likely to come up over the Yamuna in northeast Delhi after Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Rajkumar Chauhan Friday took note of the traffic jams on the lone single-lane bridge over the river.
Chauhan visited the northeast Lok Sabha constituency for developmental projects along with Delhi Congress chief Jaiprakash Agarwal, who highlighted the need for another bridge over the river.
“On Agarwal’s request, Chauhan agreed to construct two more bridges on the Yamuna in northeast Delhi. He directed the PWD’s engineer-in-chief and regional chief engineer to study these projects as soon as possible and submit the detail report so that work on executing these projects may be undertaken soon,” an official statement said here.
Though there are several bridges over the Yamuna in the capital city, northeast Delhi only has the Wazirabad Bridge, which is single lane and sees massive traffic jams.
“Agarwal advised Chauhan to construct a new bridge parallel to the old bridge at Wazirabad and one near Chandgi Ram Akhara. Chauhan assured him that the process of constructing both these projects would start soon,” the statement added.
