Kochi: The links of the Sanathan Sanstha with the Margao blast is getting thicker with all the five accused in the case being the Hindu right-wing group’s activists. The engineering student arrested on Wednesday by the Special Investigation Team is also reportedly an activist of the Sanstha.
Dhananjay Ashtekar (20), the newly-arrested accused, is an Electrical Engineering student in Maharashtra. He has confessed to his involvement in the blast during the police questioning, according to reports. The man has been remanded to 12 days police custody after he was presented before local court on Wednesday.
Ashtekar’s name had reportedly come up while the investigating officers questioned those already arrested. He was reportedly linked to planting explosives at Sancoale village, which were detected and defused.
In another development, the Bandora village panchayat passed a resolution seeking the ban of the Sanstha. The village panchayat had earlier given permission for the organisation to set up its base in Ramnathi, which falls in its jurisdiction. People had reportedly attacked the Ashram of the Sanstha last day.
The blast took place in Margao in Goa on October 16 while two persons were reportedly carrying the explosives on bike. Both persons – Malgonda Patil and Yogesh Naik- died in the accident and were understood to be activists of the Sanathan Sanstha. They were reportedly taking the explosives to some place on the eve of Diwali but the blast took place before they could plant them in the planned spot. Two more persons – Vinayak Patil and Vinay Talekar- were arrested by the SIT later and were found to be associated with the organisation.
