Afghan cricket team to play in Asian tournament

Kabul : Afghanistan’s national cricket team will compete in this year’s Asian Cricket Council Twenty20 Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Hong Kong, Kuwait, Nepal, Oman, Qatar, Singapore and the UAE are also taking part in the competition that begins Nov 22.

The Afghan team includes 14 players, their coach, manager and a doctor.

The top three teams from the ACC Twenty20 Cup will join Bangladesh, China, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka for the 2010 Asian Games cricket tournament.

The deputy chairman of Afghanistan’s cricket board, Allah Dad, told Pajhwok Afghan News agency that 12 countries would take part in the tournament. They have been divided into two groups.

Afghanistan is in Group A, along with Singapore, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia and China. Group B countries include Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Nepal and Bahrain.
