Islamabad : The police have formed committees, which will include the aged, to tackle terror in this Pakistani capital. The committee members would collect information about tenants and visit schools and colleges to guide students.
The committees comprise the youth, members of senior citizens’ committees and personnel of ‘Rescue 15’ which provides aid to terror victims, a police spokesman said.
Members of these committees would visit academic institutions and guide students on ways to counter terrorism threats in the prevailing scenario. They would also visit residential sectors to collect information about tenants, The News International reported Tuesday.
Inspector General of Police Syed Kaleem Imam had proposed to involve the community for effective policing and countering the challenge of terrorism.
Pakistan has been hit by a string of terror strikes, including powerful bombings. The latest wave of violence began Oct 5 when a bomber struck at an UN agency in the capital. Twin suicide bombings hit the International Islamic University here Oct 20.
The army is battling the Taliban in the rugged terrain of South Waziristan. The Taliban has vowed to retaliate, especially over the US drone strikes, one of which killed its then chief Baitullah Mehsud in early August.
