Kochi: The Muslim League will stage strong agitation if the government did not take necessary action against the SP who shot dead a member of the party in Kasargod, said party general secretary PK Kunhalikkutty. He was talking at the press conference after the working committee meeting of the Muslim League yesterday in Calicut.
Mr Kunhalikkutty said that the problems were worsened in Kasargod due to the irresponsible acts of the SP. The problem that could have been solved by only a lathicharge was dragged to the death of an innocent by the firing of SP Ramdas Pothen. The argument of the SP that the district would have gone ablaze had he not fired is pure lie. A SP who is proud of killing a youth should not be allowed to continue in office. The police made all problems in Kasargod, he said.
He accused the police of trying to communalise the problem. He also reportedly alleged that the political agenda of the CPI (M) was behind this. He said that the activists of the League had not created any problems.
The problems began after the march and public meeting were over. The party would take action if any party member was involved in the problems. The party was also thinking of taking legal action against the SP. The Muslim League would bring up the police firing in Kasargod as a big human rights issue. The matter would be discussed by the UDF meeting to be held on November 23, he added.
Meanwhile the Crime Branch is proceeding with the investigation in which six persons were arrested today. Nine persons have been arrested in connection with the violence that took place in the city on Sunday following a public meeting of the Muslim League. Two persons were killed, one in police firing and the other stabbed, amidst the violence.
The Social Democratic Party of India demanded that the conspiracy of the RSS behind the incidents in Kasargod that led to the police action and violence in the city should also be investigated. The judicial probe ordered by the government should be comprehensive enough to include not only the police firing but the related violence and conspiracies too.
In another development, the state High Court yesterday directed the Directorate of Public Prosecution to inform the Court of the measures taken in Kasargod to keep communal harmony. Justice KT Shankaran gave the order while considering a petition filed by a person, who has been charged by the police of a case related to communal tension. The Court had, in September, expressed anxiety in the increase of communal tensions in the northernmost district of the state which lies near to Mangalore.
