New Delhi : Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia Wednesday launched an awareness campaign to make the city safe and secure for women.
Safe Delhi For Women Initiative was launched along with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and aims to work towards creating a safe and accessible city for women.
“We will create mass awareness campaigns for safety and security of women through police, urban planners, service providers, transport authorities, community groups, resident groups and NGOs for sensitizing the entire society,” said Walia after launching the campaign.
“Urban planning and design need to incorporate gender as an element in order to design more inclusive cities and public transport needs to be able to provide services that are safe and efficient,” she said.
She said that through Delhi government’s pioneering Bhagidari Programme, resident welfare associations, trades’ association and other groups would be roped in for this initiative.
