CIC asks government to give Phukan report to Fernandes

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Central Information Commission (CIC) has directed the central government to hand over the Phukan Commission report, which was set up to probe allegations of corruption in arms deals, to former defence minister George Fernandes if the Lok Sabha allows it.

Only 47 pages of the 700 page long report were placed before the Lok Sabha in 2005.

Fernandes, however, sought the complete copy of the report from the defence ministry under the Right to Information (RTI). The report was submitted to the government in 2004.

“…seek the advice of the office of the Speaker, Lok Sabha, to determine whether any such conscious decision was indeed taken and if not, to provide to appellant George Fernandes the complete information sought within 20 working days…,” CIC Wajahat Habibullah said in his order.
