Mamata ‘apologises’ to people of Siliguri

By IANS,

Siliguri (West Bengal) : Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Sunday apologised to the people of this northern West Bengal town as her party had failed to form the board in alliance with its partner Congress in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation.

“I am extremely sorry and I apologise to all of you as we failed to form the civic board in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation. People voted for us because they didn’t want Left Front to win the civic body polls,” Banerjee told a public rally here.

“Trinamool Congress didn’t surrender before any money or muscle power. To us, self-respect is more important than anything. We cannot come to power at the cost of our political ideology,” she said.

“Our friends became little greedy. May God forgive them,” she said.

Not taking the name of any political party, Banerjee said that the Trinamool Congress would continue to work for the interest of common people in Siliguri.

“We’ve not belied people who reposed their faith in us. Our councillors are united,” the Trinamool supremo said, terming the CPI-M her “arch enemy”.
