Crime Branch to probe fashion designer’s murder

By IANS,

New Delhi : The probe into fashion designer Mona Suri’s murder in 2007 has been transferred to the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police, the Delhi High Court was informed Tuesday.

The police made the submission while filing the status report before Justice V.K. Shali. The court then disposed of the petition from the victim’s father Manjeet Bawa, seeking the transfer of investigations to an agency other than the Delhi Police.

Suri was burnt to death by two unidentified assailants outside her residence in Greater Kailash here on Aug 12, 2007. She succumbed to her injuries on Oct 21, 2007. However, the police have not been able to nab the assailants or establish the motive behind the murder.

Alleging that he police had failed miserably in making headway in the investigations, the victim’s family urged the probe should be done by an “independent, unbiased, and impartial agency such as the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation)”.

The petition was filed after police once again sought time from the trial court last month to file the probe report.

Bawa alleged the police neither filed the status report nor on the narco-analysis test conducted on Suri’s husband Naveen Suri and his girlfriend Rachna.

In May, police took four suspects, including Naveen Suri and Rachna, to Gujarat for the narco-analysis test. However, no status report has been filed till date.
