Bhopal : Spurious ‘ghee’ (clarified butter) worth Rs.7.5 crore was sized from Shajapur district in Madhya Pradesh, officials said Thursday.
A joint team of the district administration and state’s food and civil supplies department raided Manorama Food Products in Maksi industrial area Tuesday evening and seized 177 tonnes of ghee, mustard oil and edible oil.
Shajapur Sub-Divisional Magistrate Dinesh Chandra Singhi said: “The raid conducted at Manorama Food Product lasted for two days and 18 samples of ghee seized from the unit have been sent to a laboratory for tests.”
The samples have been sent to the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) for tests.
FDA Controller Rakesh Shrivastava said: “Shajapur district collector has told us that they are sending us samples of adulterated ghee for examination. If the reports reveal adulteration, we would initiate legal action against the offenders.”
An official source said: “The company owner has immense clout and was hand-in-glove with some local politicians and officials.”
