Salt bags on tracks hold up trains in Haryana

By IANS,

Ambala (Haryana) : Salt bags that fell on the railway tracks from an overturned truck held up rail traffic on the Ambala-Saharanpur section for several hours Thursday morning, railway authorities said.

The bags fell after a truck overturned early Thursday on the National Highway 1 flyover passing over the tracks. The truck broke through the flyover parapet and was hanging precariously on the flyover edge.

The railways had to stop trains to and from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh following the accident.

The bags also damaged overhead electricity wires due to which the train traffic was affected.

“We are trying to repair the electricity wires that have been damaged. The salt bags are also being removed,” railway official R.K. Saxena said.

Railway officials said that nearly a dozen trains on this section were affected.

The busy Delhi-Ambala-Amritsar-Jammu railway line also passes from here but the traffic on that section was not affected.
