Bangladesh : The government launches Taka 75.95 crore for 40-days (1st phase) employment generation programmes from tomorrow in greater Rangpur of Rajshahi Division and other 11 districts in the country, an officials said today. (One Crore: ten million)
The programme is being launched as a part of the two-phase 100-day employment generation programme with a view to assist the poorer section people and jobless farm-and day-labourers during this seasonal lean period in the poverty-prone districts.
The district administrations and District Relief and Rehabilitation Offices have already completed all formalities to
begin the first phase of the 40-day programmes at Taka 75.95 crore from tomorrow in greater Rangpur, the officials said.
Senior Assistant Secretary (Relief Programme-3) of Food and Disaster Management Ministry Shayla Farzana today told the BSS that the programme is also simultaneously being launched in 11
other districts for the poverty-stricken people.
The other districts are Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laksmipur, Barishal, Potuakhali, Bhola, Borguna and Pirojpur. A total of 4,43,856 distressed people and jobless farm-and day-labourers in all the 16 districts will be benefited.
Each of the beneficiary workers will get a total maximum amount of Taka 4,000 after completion of his or her 40-day works
under the first-phase programme that has been planned for combating seasonal job crisis during the lean period this year,
she added.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) of Rangpur Mokhlesur Rahman told BSS today that the beneficiary people will get Taka 100 for their per-day works as wages for five days in a week and 20 days in a month in the districts.
The works include cleaning of weeds, preparing thousands of compost fertilizer heaps using water hyacinth, repairing and
earth-filling for bridges, culverts, roads, water bodies, ponds, canals, educational and religious institutions in all of these 16
districts.
The administrations have already completed preparation of the lists of the beneficiaries and projects in all unions in the targeted upazilas of Rangpur, Kurigram, almonirhat, Nilphamari and Gaibandha districts in greater Rangpur and other 11 districts.
The first 40-day works of the first-phase programme will continue till December 15 next this year during the peak seasonal
lean period hour in these poverty-and disaster-stricken districts, senior officials said.
The deputy commissioners and DRROs of greater Rangpur districts today told that the government has allocated Taka 75.95
crore for 1,89,238 enlisted 18-60 years age group beneficiaries including women for these five districts under the first-phase
programme.
Of the amount, Taka 23,90,48,000 has been allocated for 59,762 beneficiaries in Rangpur, Taka 21,79,32,000 for 54,483
beneficiaries in Kurigram, Taka 2,90,64,000 for 7,266 beneficiaries in Lalmonirhat, Taka 6,68,12,000 for 16,703 beneficiaries in Gaibandha and Taka 20,40,96,000 for 51,024 beneficiaries in Nilphamari.
In Rangpur, Taka 5,71,20,000 has been allocated for 14, 280 beneficiaries in Sadar upazila, Taka 1,31,72,000 for 3,293 in Mithapukur, Taka 3,69,20,000 for 9,230 in Pirganj, Taka 3,17,24,000 for 7,931 in Pirgachha, Taka 2,58,60,000 for 6,465 in Kawnia, Taka 2,95,92,00 for 7,398 in Gangachara and Taka 3,06,64,000 for 7,666 beneficiaries in Badarganj upazilas.
“We have completed all formalities for implementation of the first phase employment generation programme from tomorrow in all 83 unions under all eight upazilas in Rangpur,” DRRO of Rangpur Mokhlesur Rahman said.
The Deputy Commissioner, UNOs and government officials concerned will formally launch the first 40-day programme at various places at all 83 unions of all eight upazilas in Rangpur tomorrow.
While talking to BSS today, newly appointed DC of Rangpur BM Enamul Haque told that the programme will be implemented smoothly to assist the poorer people at this peak hour of the seasonal lean period and any irregularities will be dealt ironically.
The programme will definitely help the poor in the poverty-prone areas of greater Rangpur, who are already facing the softest ever current seasonal lean period very successfully following various effective steps of the government, officials said.
Besides, ongoing huge harvests of short duration BRRI Dhan 33 and BINA Dhan 7 paddies in 55,680 hectares at this peak monga hour, VGF, VGD programmes, Test Relief and various allowances are also helping the farm-labourers to overcome the situation.
