New Delhi: Commandos of the elite National Security Guards (NSG) will soon be operating from near the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport for faster response to emergency situations like terror strikes and anti-hijack operations in Delhi and surrounding areas, a senior official said here Friday.
The “task force”, equipped with modern weapons and gadgets, would be positioned a stone’s throw away from the airport. The decision was taken in the aftermath of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
“They would start functioning in December,” said a senior NSG officer here.
A helipad will also be readied for the commandos to be airlifted at short notice.
