Pregnant Orissa woman alleges molestation by cops

By IANS,

Bhubaneswar: A pregnant woman from the minority community in Orissa’s Kendrapada district Friday alleged that some policemen came to her house late Thursday night, molested her and beat up her two minor children without any reason.

The woman, who resides at Tendukuda village under Patkura police station, alleged that the policemen went on a spree of vandalism when no adult male member was at home.

“The policemen forcibly entered into our house breaking the gate, molested me, used abusive language. They beat up my children by a baton and also molested my minor daughter,” the middle aged woman who is admitted in a local hospital after the incident told reporters.

The woman said she has lodged a complaint with the district superintendent of police after local police refused to act on the matter.

The woman whose husband lives in Saudi Arabia also alleged that the policemen had forcibly taken away nearly Rs.20,000 in cash and jewellery.

“I have received her complaint and deputed a deputy superintendent of police to inquire into the allegation,” District Superintendent of Police Narsundar Mishra told IANS.

“If the allegations are true, we will take strong action against the cops. I was told by officials that the policemen had gone to investigate a crime,” he said.

District headquarters of Kendrapada is located 93 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.
