New Delhi : State-run oil explorer Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has registered its fifth clean development mechanism (CDM) project with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The latest project for enhancing energy efficiency in the amine circulation pumps of the company’s Hazira plant in Gujarat, will fetch an estimated certified emission reduction (CER) of 4043 annually for a period of 10 years, ONGC said in a statement.
The registration process was completed Sep 22.
ONGC’s first project was registered in February 2007. The total annual CER from the five projects comes to 124,000 per year.
ONGC chairman and managing director R.S. Sharma said in the release that the project reiterated ONGC’s commitment towards climate change mitigation and sustainable development.
“It is a matter of great pride to specially mention that ONGC is the only central PSU (public sector undertaking) to have five registered CDM projects against its name,” he added.
ONGC has also submitted another CDM project which is under consideration.
The UN Framework Convention is an international environmental treaty that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
