Some 17,000 security personnel secure Presidential inauguration

Jakarta : Some 17,000 police and military personnel secured the inauguration of second-term elected President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Boediono here on Tuesday at the House of Representatives (DPR) or People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) building in South Jakarta.

According to a report by Indonesia’s Antara news agency Tuesday, the international standard security has also put in the first ring; a team of snipers, a bomb squad, 300 Presidential Security Service and 500 personnel from Indonesian Military.

Chief of Public Relation division of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters Senior Commissioner Chrysnanda stated the police has deployed 17,510 personnel to secure the inauguration of the next president and vice president for the 2009-2014 period.

“They consisted of 1,510 personnel from the Police Headquarters, 7,805 from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police and the rest are from Police Precincts in Jakarta,” said Chrysnanda.

The Senior Commissioner added that some personnel from the Jakarta Public Order agency are also at the inauguration location to secure the event.

At the entrance gate, the police has provided scanners to check visitor’s goods including their bags.

As many as seven cars carrying barbed wires are also ready for possible rallies in front of the DPR building while three crane trucks are also standing ready to deal with traffic jams.

As many as five presidents and two representatives from the neighbouring countries, including Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Long and King of Brunei Darussalam Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, attended the event.
