Srinagar/New Delhi: Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Thursday left for London enroute New Delhi to take part in two separate conferences on the Kashmir issue, a Hurriyat spokesman said.
The Mirwaiz left Srinagar in the morning for Delhi, from where he is to take a flight to London.
The separatist leader is to attend a two-day intra-Kashmir conference beginning Oct 24, which is being organised by Kashmiris living in London, the spokesman said.
The Mirwaiz will also attend a day-long roundtable conference Oct 26 organised by the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies.
The Mirwaiz’s foreign visit comes at a time when the central government has declared its willingness to re-initiate the Kashmir peace process and restore all talks with separatist leaders through “quiet diplomacy” to solve the problem in the troubled state.
The Mirwaiz was the first Kashmiri separatist leader to welcome the central government’s move, saying it was a “positive development”.
In London, the Mirwaiz will present the Hurriyat’s stand vis-a-via the Kashmir issue and on resumption of dialogue with Delhi.
