New Delhi : A mild tremor was reported in and around the national capital early Friday, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said. There was no report of damage.
An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale with the epicentre in the Hindu Kush mountain range of Afghanistan hit northern parts of the country at 1:21 a.m., an IMD official said.
“Delhi and NCR (National Capital Region) felt some mild tremors due to seismic activity in the Hindu Kush region. We can also expect some minor aftershocks in the area,” J.L. Gautam, IMD director (seismology), told IANS.
“We did not receive any emergency rescue calls following the tremor,” said a Delhi Fire Service officer.
According to IMD officials, Delhi is in an earthquake-prone zone.
