West Bengal government asked to speed up development work

By IANS,

Kolkata : With the opposition Trinamool Congress making electoral inroads into its traditional bastions, West Bengal’s ruling Left Front Monday said the state government should speed up development work by fast implementation of projects.

“We’ve given a proposal to the state government to speed up its work by implementing all government projects. The state government should also issue ration cards, Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificates to the people,” state Left Front chairman Biman Bose told reporters here after a meeting of the ruling combine.

“The state government’s functioning has to be very fast,” he said, adding the government should ensure no project gets stuck in any department.

Asked about whether there was any decision within the front to continue the process of dialogue with the Maoist rebels, Bose said the matter was not in today’s (Monday) agenda so it was not discussed in the meeting.

He said that the government must carry on its search operation to find out two state police constables, Kanchan Garai and Sabir Ali Mullah, who had gone missing in Lalgarh few months ago.

Left Front met here to discuss the strategy for the by-elections in 10 assembly seats next month and also finalized its future course of action in the state.

“We’ll soon formulate a complete strategy for our future political movement across the state. On the basis of that policy, the state Left Front will hold a mass rally in Kolkata Nov 16,” the chairman said.
